ProActive Kids Comes to Addison!

Posted on: August 10th, 2014 by Nicki

ProActive Kids is thrilled to announce our newest location Addison, IL, funded by Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.

ProActive Kids is thrilled to be working with Elmhurst and bringing the PAK program to another community in DuPage County!

The ProActive Kids  program is much more than a simple diet or exercise program. It is a  program to treat the whole child …physically, nutritionally and emotionally, built around the stability and commitment of family. During the 8-week session, the children and their families focus on three core areas: FitnessNutrition, and Lifestyle.

The program educates children and their families on fun and sustainable ways to improve their health through weekly physical exercises, lessons, assignments and discussions. Unlike other programs that focus on fitness and nutrition, ProActive Kids also incorporates psychological coaching. PAK engages the entire family to carry lessons throughout the child’s home environment to improve overall well-being. This holistic approach  is crucial to the success of the participants.

ProActive Kids will have the maximum session size of 20 kids for the spring session taking place beginning October 20, 2014.

This program is FREE to children ages 8-14 who are considered obese or at risk defined by being in the 85th percentile and above in BMI.

Do I Need PAK?

Posted on: January 1st, 2012 by Nicki

Many families do not know if they need PAK and we get the  question all of the time –how do I know?

PAK has been uniquely designed for kids who are struggling with unhealthy weight. To find out if your child is overweight or obese, use the BMI calculator created by the Mayo Clinic. Plug in the requested information and it will tell you your child’s BMI as well as action you should take to keep your kids healthy.

Though BMI is a good measure to help understand body makeup, it is not the only measure as it does not factor in muscle mass, time of day, etc. Use it as an indicator or estimate but consult with your Physician to learn more about your child’s weight and BMI.

When you use the calculator, be sure to use the child version.
